So, instead, craft a compelling message introducing yourself and your music, showcasing your professionalism and dedication to your craft. Remember, a well-crafted email can really make a lasting impression and set you apart from the crowd.
Include an EPK (Electronic Press Kit) in Your Email:
An EPK is a powerful tool that provides a comprehensive overview of your musical journey. As a music journalist, this is usually one of my favorite parts of email pitches because when an artist has a captivating mini website, it makes a big difference in how connected I feel to the artist and their message.
Your basic email pitch letter should always include essential elements such as your bio, press releases, high-quality photos, music samples, and any notable achievements or reviews. A well-curated EPK showcases your talent and professionalism, making it easier for curators, promoters, and journalists to get a glimpse of your unique sound and story.
Personalize Your Email:
I CANNOT stress this enough! This is a HUGE thing for me. Just like you, the recipient of your pitch wants to also feel seen and known. Not all of us may not be fellow musicians, but we create art of our own, the same as you, be it a music blog, popular playlist, or show line-up.
If I get a random email with a hyperlink to something without any context, that would be a hard pass. This industry is all about connection and if you’re wanting to work collaboratively with a real human, show them that you’re human. Don’t shy away to take a moment to conduct a quick Google search on the recipient and at least be familiar with the type of work they do before hitting ‘send.’
Again, generic emails are easily dismissed, but personalized messages have a greater chance of grabbing attention. Take the time to research the individuals you’re reaching out to and include specific details that demonstrate your genuine interest. Mention something you admire about their work or a recent project they’ve been involved in.
Personalization shows that you’ve done your homework and increases the likelihood of building a meaningful connection.
